Then and now
Then: Evanescence was fantastic on Wednesday. I have no idea how Amy Lee manages to hit those notes after touring for so many months, but she does. Chevelle was nice and loud. They're going for the Trent Reznor "angry as I wanna be but with a heart of poetry" schtick, and so far, so good. Didn't catch Finger Eleven... we got a late start heading down there, and traffic had built up against us. I did have a nice meal at Jake's Bar and Grille in Providence beforehand. If you're out of the mainstream, and are looking for a little hole-in-the-wall place with great food at better than decent prices, get yourself over to Jake's on Richmond street.
Now: So i'm at my parents house, cooking Easter dinner for them as well as two handfuls of extended family members which I have lovingly nicknamed "The Ingrates." So I prep the ham... I get my surface rub all set, apply same to said ham, and then proceed to cover it with some pineapple rings and whole cloves. I go to preheat the oven, and CLICK CLICK CLICK ... the electronic starter keeps clicking away. Usually this stops after about 20 seconds... not this time... and hey, is that gas I smell? So we turn it all off, and wait for it to clear out, and I try the burners on the stove... they all click for about 5 seconds, and light right up. I try the main burner again...CLICK CLICK CLICK... nothing. I take the oven apart, the floor panel, the baffle plate that distributes the flames, etc., until I can see the electronic starter. I start it again, CLICK CLICK CLICK, but no spark down below. Somewhere there is a disconnect. BACKSTORY: Two weeks ago, the fan-hood above my parent's stove fell off it's mounting and fell onto the stove. My cousin Arthur (Mr. Fix-It) was called, and he pulled the stove out, and re-moutned the hood. So either the impact, or the moving of the stove back and forth has caused this lovely failure. BACK TO NOW: So I turn the stove on again, and light it manually with one of those "don't get to close to the grill butane lighter thingies." The stove lights, the flame grows properly, and it will work fine, the one problem... the electronic unit has still not sensed a true spark, and is constantly firing. CLICK CLICK CLICK. So I re-assemble the oven floor, and then manually light it so that I can cook the friggin' ham. All the while (and for the next two hours) CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK. Kill me Billy, Kill me.
